The parents are stupid! The farm is boring! Everything is annoying!
The parents are stupid! The farm is boring! Everything is annoying! Nils Holgersson is not comfortable with himself, or the world. But suddenly everything changes: he is turned into a Thumbling. When, forgetting his new size, he wants to keep Martin the goose from flying north with the other wild geese, he is drawn into the sky and sees the world from above. After some resistance from the wild geese, he is allowed to accompany them to Lapland. The journey is long, full of adventure and dangers…
“Nils Holgerssons wonderful journey” is about the expulsion of indifference. A boy who sinks into self-compassion and feels unloved begins, through an unusual journey, to develop interest in the world surrounding him, to feel responsible for others and to himself. On his journey, he meets ambivalent situations and has to make difficult decisions. Empathy does not make life easier, but it opens up the possibilities that shape life. Nils Holgersson discovers a new freedom.
A puppeteer and an actor bring Selma Lagerlöf’s world-famous children’s book “Nils Holgerssons wonderful journey through Sweden” to the stage. Up in the attic, the old Nils begins to tell a story to his granddaughter. The story becomes a play, and soon the objects in the attic are transformed into the characters of the tale. This is a show that transcends the boundaries between actors, puppets and object theater.
